A junior aide to Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has been dismissed from his position following reports that linked the staffer to a sex tape filmed in a Capitol Hill hearing room. The incident has drawn significant attention, with portions of the explicit video being published by the Daily Caller, showing two men engaged in sexual activity within the Hart Senate Office Building—a location historically used for high-profile hearings, including those involving Supreme Court nominees and the 9/11 Commission.
Though the reports from conservative outlets did not initially name the individuals involved, speculation quickly arose, identifying Aidan Maese-Czeropski, a legislative aide to Senator Cardin, as one of the individuals in the video. Following these allegations, Senator Cardin’s office released a statement on Saturday confirming that Maese-Czeropski is “no longer employed by the U.S. Senate,” but declined to provide further details, citing the matter as a personnel issue.
On Friday night, Maese-Czeropski posted a statement on LinkedIn, where he acknowledged that this has been a challenging time for him but did not explicitly deny involvement in the video. He wrote, “This has been a difficult time for me, as I have been attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda. While some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgment, I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace. Any attempts to characterize my actions otherwise are fabricated, and I will be exploring what legal options are available to me in these matters.”
Maese-Czeropski also denied unrelated allegations that he accosted Representative Max Miller (R-Ohio) in a Capitol hallway earlier in the week by reportedly telling the Jewish lawmaker, “Free Palestine.” Attempts to reach Maese-Czeropski for further comment have been unsuccessful.
The U.S. Capitol Police have not commented on whether an investigation into the matter is underway, and Senate leadership, including aides to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, have declined to make any statements.
Maese-Czeropski had worked for Senator Cardin since October 2021 and previously interned for Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) in 2018.
