Guess what, “Sex and the City” fans? Kim Cattrall is making a comeback as Samantha Jones! Variety reports that she will reprise her iconic role in the Season 2 finale of “And Just Like That,” the revival of the beloved HBO series.
But before you get too excited, there’s a catch. Cattrall will only appear in one scene, and she shot her dialogue separately from the rest of the cast. She didn’t see or speak to Sarah Jessica Parker or the other stars of the show. In the scene, Samantha, who now lives in London, will have a phone conversation with Carrie Bradshaw, played by Parker.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Samantha’s return ever since Cattrall publicly announced in 2016 that she was done playing the character. There was even a public fallout between Cattrall and Parker after the proposed third “Sex and the City” movie fell through. When the revival was announced, Cattrall wasn’t approached to reprise her role, and new characters were introduced instead.
Despite previous statements from Parker and showrunner Michael Patrick King that it was unlikely Cattrall would return, HBO’s chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, convinced her to come back for a scene in the second season.
While this may not be the continuation of Samantha’s story that fans were hoping for, it’s still exciting to see her back, even if it’s just for a brief moment. The second season of “And Just Like That” premieres on June 22, but Cattrall’s scene won’t air until August.
In addition to her appearance in “And Just Like That,” Cattrall is currently starring in the Lionsgate film “About My Father” alongside Robert De Niro. She will also be playing a makeup mogul in the upcoming Netflix drama “Glamorous,” which premieres on June 22, the same day as the second season of the show.
So mark your calendars, fans, and get ready to catch a glimpse of Samantha Jones once again!
