A conspiracy theory making its rounds on the social community message board Reddit is claiming that, because of the high cost of their furniture and the fact that each item for sale had a female name, the home decor giant WayFair used the sale of storage cabinets as a cover for child trafficking. Wayfair strongly denounced the sex trafficking rumor, saying “There is, of course, no truth to these claims.”
“The products in question are industrial grade cabinets that are accurately priced,” Wayfair said, “Recognizing that the photos and descriptions provided by the supplier did not adequately explain the high price point, we have temporarily removed the products from site to rename them and to provide a more in-depth description and photos that accurately depict the product to clarify the price point.”
Some of the cabinet prices for sale on the WayFair ecommerce store were priced very high, ranging from $12,699.99 to $14,499.99, and had what could be identified as girl names, including names like Alyvia, Yaritza, Neriah and Samiyah. One Reddit user claimed those were the names of missing children.
Another Reddit user posted on the forums, “Is it possible Wayfair involved in Human trafficking with their WFX Utility collection? Or are these just extremely overpriced cabinets?”.
