Nicole Kidman opens up about her emotionally intense role in "Babygirl," emphasizing the supportive and liberating environment created by director Halina during the filming of the sexually graphic movie.

Nicole Kidman recently opened up about her experience filming the new sexually graphic movie “Babygirl,” revealing that the intense scenes left her feeling “ragged” and emotionally drained. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kidman candidly shared how the demanding nature of the film led her to a point where she no longer wanted to be touched or continue filming. “At some point, I was like, ‘I don’t want to be touched. I don’t want to do this anymore,’ but at the same time, I was compelled to do it,” she explained, adding that she felt “very exposed as an actor, as a woman, as a human being.”

However, during a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, Kidman clarified her earlier remarks, emphasizing that she didn’t feel exploited while filming “Babygirl.” The film, which explores themes of sex, desire, secrets, marriage, power, and consent, was directed by Halina, a female filmmaker whose approach to the material provided a safe and liberating environment for Kidman. “It’s told by a woman, through her gaze — Halina wrote it, and she directed it — and that’s to me what made it so unique,” Kidman said, praising the on-set environment as “very freeing.”

Kidman further expressed that despite the emotionally taxing nature of the role, the experience was authentic and protected. “There was enormous caretaking by all of us; we were all very gentle with each other and helped each other. It felt very authentic, protected and, at the same time, real,” she said, highlighting the collaborative and respectful atmosphere on set.

“Babygirl,” which delves into complex and sensitive themes, is set to be released in U.S. theaters on December 25.
