32-year-old freshman Democratic California Congresswoman, Katie Hill, is currently being investigated by the House Ethics Committee over her alleged relationship with a female staffer, identified by the Daily Mail as 24-year-old campaign worker Morgan Desjardins of Santa Clarita, California, after Hill’s husband allegedly leaked nude photos of Katie smoking a bong.
Lawmakers passed an ethics change in 2018 that bans lawmakers from having sexual relationships with staff aides.
Hill, an openly bisexual progressive who flipped a longstanding republican district, quickly rose to vice chair of the House Oversight Committee.
Hill had previously denied the relationship, but since has admitted to “throupling” – and said the open, sexual relationship with her husband, Kenny Heslep, and Desjardins was “inappropriate”, and began soon after she hired Desjardins to work with her on her congressional campaign in late 2017,
“I know that even a consensual relationship with a subordinate is inappropriate, but I still allowed it to happen despite my better judgment,” Hill said in a statement. “For that, I apologize. I wish nothing but the best for her and hope everyone respects her privacy in this difficult time.”
The nude leaked images in question were obtained by British tabloid the DailyMail. Hill’s lawyer then sent out a cease-and-desist letter to the Daily Mail demanding it take down the images as this was an “invasion of privacy.”
One of the images appears to show the congresswoman from California nude with a “bong” filled with a brown liquid and a questionable tattoo on her midriff, and another image appears to show the 32-year-old congresswoman kissing a female staffer. Another nude photo of Katie Hill shows her topless while brushing the hair of a clothed Desjardins.
In a letter to her constituents, Hill acknowledged and wrote: “I know that even a consensual relationship with a subordinate is inappropriate, but I still allowed it to happen despite my better judgment.
“For that I apologize. I wish nothing but the best for her and hope everyone respects her privacy in this difficult time.”
Katie Hill said she is currently in the process of divorcing her husband.
