Jazz Jennings, the 19-year-old LGBTQ activist and ‘I Am Jazz’ reality TV star, posted a picture of herself wearing a bikini swimsuit at the beach, to show off her “battle wounds” from her June, 2018 gender confirmation surgery.
Jazz said, “These are my scars on full display in 2019, I’m proud of my scars and love my body just the way it is. I call them my battle wounds because they signify the strength and perseverance it took to finally complete my transition.”
She added, “It was like a dream. It was. This is a moment that I had always envisioned and just experiencing it was so surreal. I was like I can’t believe this is happening.”
But Jennings suffered major, unexpected complications from her surgery that required her to undergo a second procedure. Doctors were forced to use a new technique because Jazz began using hormones at a very young age, and because she hadn’t developed enough tissue to construct a vagina yet, her doctors used tissue from her stomach lining.
Jennings told ABC’s Nightline in a recent interview, “I had to come back in for another procedure, but it was just all part of the journey. The good thing though is that it was only cosmetic and external so it wasn’t too dramatic.”
In a New Years post Jennings posted a video
Adding, “Though it can be hard at times, a positive mindset and the support of those around you can help you conquer any challenge. Thank you to all my fans who have supported me throughout the years! Love you all, this video is for you!”
Jazz Jennings’ hit TLC series ‘I Am Jazz’ is expected to air its 6th season in 2020.
