Heard had unsuccessfully tried to have the lawsuit dismissed or moved to another jurisdiction. Amber Heard has also filed a separate $100 million defamation countersuit against actor Johnny Depp in 2020.

Johnny Depp is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million after she had posted a 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post, in which she had detailed her experience with domestic abuse. Heard insinuated the abuse was at the hands of Johnny Depp, although the ‘Edward Scissor Hands’ actor was not mentioned by name in that article. Depp has continually denied Heard’s allegations of domestic abuse when they were together, and instead claimed he was the real victim of domestic abuse.
