An Arizona woman who accused former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer of sexual assault is now herself facing legal trouble. The woman, whose identity remains protected, has been charged with fraud and theft by extortion, according to an indictment unsealed in Maricopa County Superior Court.
The indictment, revealed on Monday, alleges that Bauer and another person were defrauded in a scheme that may have spanned several years. The charges come after the woman sued Bauer in December 2022, claiming he raped her in late 2020, resulting in a pregnancy.
Bauer, however, vehemently denies the allegations, stating that he only had consensual relations with the woman. He countersued, accusing her of fabricating the pregnancy to extort money from him. His legal team revealed that the woman made several million-dollar demands against Bauer, leading to a settlement of $8,761 for expenses he believed were related to the alleged pregnancy and its subsequent termination.
The situation has taken a new turn with the woman now facing criminal charges. Bauer, in a recorded video statement, maintains his innocence and expresses frustration over the ordeal. Despite trying to revive his MLB career after serving a suspension for violating league policies, Bauer continues to face legal battles.
The woman is set to be arraigned on the criminal charges, while Bauer seeks to move forward from what he describes as a “massive lie” impacting his livelihood.
