Prince Andrew says he has ‘no recollection’ of meeting Epstein accuser.
In a BBC Newsnight Buckingham Palace interview Britain’s Prince Andrew said he has “no recollection” of meeting a woman who accused him of having sexual encounters with her when she was 17 at the behest of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who is now deceased. Epstein committed suicide in a New York jail cell in August, 2019.
When asked about Virginia Roberts, now Virginia Giuffre, Prince Andrew said he has, “no recollection of ever meeting this lady, none whatsoever”.
Prince Andrew said in the interview that he failed to live up to the high standards of the royal family by staying at Epstein’s New York City mansion in 2010.
Virginia Giuffre said she dined with the prince, danced with him at a nightclub and had sex with him at the home of a friend of the prince in the Belgravia neighborhood in London in 2001, and provided a photograph of Prince Andrew smiling with his arm around her nude waist.
On remaining friends with Epstein and also staying at Epstein’s, even home after his release from prison, Andrew said it was something he kicks himself for “on a daily basis because it was not something that was becoming of a member of the royal family. And we try and uphold the highest standards and practices and I let the side down, simple as that.” Andrew said that staying at Epstein’s home was a “convenient place to stay.”
