Lansing, Michigan Republican Senator Peter Lucido is under investigation State Legislature after telling a 22 year-old female reporter that she “should stick around” at the Capitol, because a group of touring students from an all-boys school could “have a lot of fun” with her, while she was surrounded by the group of boys from De La Salle Collegiate High School.
Lucido allegedly said to the reporter, Allison Donahue, “You’ve heard of De La Salle, right?” When Donahue said she had not, Lucido said, “It’s an all-boys school. You should hang around, you could have a lot of fun with these boys, or they could have a lot of fun with you.”
After the comment the students were said to then burst out laughing.
Upon learning of the incident, both Republican and Democratic Senate leaders announced that they have asked the Senate Business Office to investigate if the incident violated Senate rules related to sexual harassment.
Lucido said he felt the quote was taken out of context and out of proportion, and said he did not feel he owes the reporter an apology.
Donahue said, “I wanted to walk down the hallway and just walk away, I wanted to leave, I want to go back and say ‘I couldn’t do that story today'”.
She continued, “I was immediately embarrassed. The entire hallway filled with laughter and it was embarrassing.”
