Ghislaine Maxwell Sentenced to 20 Year Prison Sentence

Ghislaine Maxwell, 60, who was facing a jail sentence of up to 65 years in prison after she was convicted on five federal charges including sex trafficking of a minor, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for her role in helping boyfriend and disgraced financier Jeffery Epstein sexually abuse minors.

Maxwell had been charged with transporting a minor for the purposes of criminal sexual activity and conspiring to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, nearly one year after Epstein was arrested for the sex trafficking of minors. Epstein was found dead in his prison cell one month after being jailed by apparent suicide.

Just before hearing the sentencing verdict, Maxwell spoke to her victims in a clear and slow manner, saying, “To you, to all the victims who came to court and to those outside, I am sorry for the pain that you have experienced, I hope that my conviction along with my harsh and unusual incarceration brings you closure.”

Federal prosecutors had requested Maxwell be sentenced 30 -55 years and the probation department recommended just 20, while Maxwell’s defense attorneys asked the judge for a prison sentence of only around a 4-5 years jail sentence.
