Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand called President Trump’s Twitter attack on her a “sexist smear”, saying it was meant to silence her and others who have accused him of sexual misconduct. Meanwhile Democrats are demanding an ethics investigation into Trump.
Trump’s tweet to Gillibrand called her a “lightweight” and a “total flunky” for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer a day after she called on the president to resign for sexual misconduct.
Trump’s tweet claimed Gillibrand would beg him for campaign contributions before he was elected as President, and suggested she “would do anything” for them:
“Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office ‘begging’ for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!” the president tweeted.
Gillibrand responded that she would continue to call for him to step down. “President Trump has committed assault, according to these women, and those are very credible allegations of misconduct and criminal activity, and he should be fully investigated and he should resign,” Gillibrand told CNN News.
